Peter Burke is currently Professor Emeritus of Cultural History at the University of Cambridge. Born in 1937, he attended Oxford University and became one of the earliest professors at the University of Sussex a year after its founding in 1961. His areas of expertise include cultural and intellectual history and the early modern era (1450-1750). Burke has published 26 books, and has done much to distinguish cultural history as a prominent field in the discipline.
